Law Library Service Desk Manual: Recording Your Time

General Information

It is very important that you record your working time promptly and accurately. You must also fill out and submit an electronic time sheet to HR by the end of the last shift you work during each pay period.

FALSIFYING YOUR TIMESHEET IS AN HONOR CODE VIOLATION AND IS GROUNDS FOR IMMEDIATE TERMINATION.

Time Sheets

All students must complete an online time sheet through Banner 8 or Banner 9 Student Self-Service via NCCU MyEOL. You are responsible for entering your time in an accurate and timely manner. Access to Banner is available both on campus and off, but it is expected that you will enter your time and submit your time sheet to your supervisor during or just after the last shift you work during a pay period.

Each pay period is two weeks long. You can find the pay period start and ending dates at the top of your electronic time sheet. Electronic time sheets are due by the end of the day on the Monday immediately after the end of the pay period. The pay period dates and the time sheet due date for each two week period will be written on the white board behind the service desk.

Your electronic time sheet MUST be started by the Sunday at the end of the pay period. This means if you have not started it on the Monday after the pay period, you will not be able to access it online and must speak with the student supervisor. It is highly recommended to start your time sheet well before the last Sunday of the pay period.

Chronic failure to complete and submit your time sheet on time will result in a delayed paycheck and is considered unacceptable for continued employment.

Time Sheets: Using Banner 8

If you are using Banner 8 to complete your electronic time sheet please follow the guide below.

You can access Banner 8 from myEOL.
On Banner 8 you will use the "Employee" tab, and then from the main menu choose "Biweekly Timesheet" (highlighted in purple below).

Select the job and correct pay period.
Make sure that the dates for the pay period you choose are correct.

Select "Enter Hours" for each day that you worked.

Enter your time in and out on the following page.
Double check that you choose the correct option between "AM" and "PM", and that your hours are correct.
Make sure to save once you have entered your time in and out.

Once you have entered your hours for every day worked in the time period be sure to return to the time sheet and click "submit for approval".

Breaks

Any student who works a 4-6 hour shift is required to take a paid 15 minute break. Breaks should be scheduled with the student's supervisor and are meant to provide a break for the student to relax when working extended periods of time, therefore, they cannot be scheduled back-to-back. Please make sure to notify your supervisor and put up either the "Be Right Back" sign or the bell when taking a break.

Students working 6-8 hours in one shift have the option to take an unpaid lunch (30 minutes). Students working over 8 hours must take the unpaid lunch break. Unpaid breaks must be recorded in the departmental paper time log and not counted in the hours worked on your electronic time sheet.

Breaks cannot be combined or "saved" to come in late or early.

Special circumstances, should they arise, should be discussed between the student and their supervisor.
