Marine salvage encompasses services voluntarily rendered under a contract to save or assist a vessel or cargo in peril. Towage refers to the relationship between a vessel needing assistance and the vessel either pushing or towing said vessel. Pilotage refers to when a vessel under its own power but requiring the assistance of a tug boat is boarded by the tug captain to give proper orders.
