Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
ILL materials are not checked out in SIRSI WorkFlows.
When patrons receive an ILL, their items should already be checked out through ILLiad by one of the Access Services staff members.
There will be paperwork wrapped around the book cover with the due date on it. Remind patrons that all paperwork should stay with the checked out item and be returned with it. Verbally tell the patron their due date, and let them know that if they want to renew it, they MUST request a renewal through their ILLiad account BEFORE the due date in order for a renewal request to be considered. If request is made on or after the due date, the renewal will often NOT be approved by the lending library.
ILL items will be on one of the labeled shelves inside technical services. The patron’s name will be on the paperwork sticking out of the book. Check to make sure you have all of their items, as they might have more than one, and make sure you are handing the correct book to the correct patron.
All law school patrons can request items, check to see when items they have already received are due, or request renewals through their ILLiad account. If they do not have an account yet, inform the patron they must go to the library’s home page (http://law.nccu.edu/library) and click on the link for Interlibrary Loan, located under the Student or Faculty Services dropdown menus. They will then be able to read through the tabbed pages to find directions on how to set up their accounts, as well as how to request items. If they (or you!) have any questions, contact the Collection & Access Services Librarian for help.
When ILL materials are returned by patrons, take their item and give it to the Joy Whitfield for return processing. If Joy is unavailable, place the item in the mailbox on her door (Office 224), or if there are too many items, place the items on the student desk in the back with a sticky note denoting what the items are, and email or text Joy to let her know the items are there.
*Undergraduate students or any other Non-Law NCCU patrons should use Shepard Library’s ILL services. Please alert Joy Whitfield (jwhitfi8@nccu.edu | 919-530-6608) if a faculty member requests assistance with ILL.
