Law Library Service Desk Manual: Patron Policies & Procedures

General Patron Infomation

General Information

It is very important when helping patrons to remember:

The Law library cannot give legal advice!

Patrons seeking help with legal advice should be directed to the Law Clinic.
If you are unsure as any requests from a patron please check with a staff member.

Computer Access / WiFi

NOTE: Public patrons are required to make an appointment and receive verification from a librarian of their date and time before coming to the Law Library. If a patron comes to the library without an appointment, check with a reference librarian, the Collection & Access Services librarian, or with the Director or Assistant Director for assistance.

Public Patrons should select Eagles-WiFi from the wireless choices, and then complete the self-registration page in their web browser. Note: They will need to have a cell phone or email address to complete registration.

Public computers are available for access to NCCU's databases. Login name and password are to be entered by Service Desk workers only. Never give this information out to a public patron or even to NCCU students. The current login and password are on a sticky note under the head count sheet clipboard at the Service Desk.

NCCU students must log in with their NCCU username and password.

Cell Phones

Cell phones should be set to non-audible signals when in the library and patrons must limit phone conversations to the Phone Zone next to the library entrance or outside of the library.

Noise Levels

Students and patrons should refrain from loud or disruptive conversations or other noisy behavior at all times.

Collaborative study may take place on the library's first floor, or in the study rooms. Study rooms are not soundproof, so students should keep their volume in check. Headphones must be used at all times and listening levels must be maintained at levels not audible to others nearby.

The second floor of the library is designated for silent study. Unless in the study rooms, students in these spaces should refrain from having conversations. If you are doing rounds and notice students talking in these areas, please remind them that the second floor is for silent study and ask them to please take conversations to the first floor or outside of the library.

Food & Drink

The Law Library allows the consumption of cold snacks (chips, candy, etc.) and covered drinks. Please respect library spaces and law school students, faculty, and staff by consuming hot meals and smelly food outside of the library. Repeat offenders will be reported for disciplinary action.

Lost & Found

Lost and found items will be kept at the Service Desk until the end of the day they are found. At the end of the day, items will be taken to the Security Desk at the first floor entrance to the Law School. If there is identifying information on the item, please email the patron and notify them of what item has been turned in, and where it can be located, including that the item will be taken to the security desk in the Law School if not picked up by the end of the day.
