CIPP/US Live Virtual Training Program

 

The North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Technology Law and Policy Center (TLPC) is thrilled to announce a unique opportunity to enhance your credentials in the data privacy field: The Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) Live Virtual Training Program (“Training Program”). 

 

The NCCU TLPC develops diverse, practice-ready, tech-driven legal professionals. The TLPC seeks to facilitate meaningful technology-related policy discussions to ensure that technology law, regulations, and technology implementation do not result in the further marginalization of the African-American Community and are used to create a more just society. North Carolina Central University School of Law is an Official Training Partner for the International Association of Privacy Professionals.

 

The International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) offers thCertified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) designation, the gold standard for privacy professionals worldwide. As data privacy becomes an increasingly important area of law, having a CIPP certification will set you apart in the competitive legal job market.

 

Course Description:

 

This is an exam prep course for the Information Privacy Professional/U.S. Government (CIPP/US) certification program. The Training Program will be held virtually from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from May 13 to June 13. Over this five week period, participants will learn critical concepts via lectures, chapter quizzes, class discussions, and a timed practice exam. The course outline is the following: 

 

  • Module 1: Introduction to Privacy 
  • Module 2: Structure of U.S. law 
  • Module 3: General Data Protection Regulation Overview 
  • Module 4: The California Consumer Privacy Act 
  • Module 5: Enforcement of U.S. Privacy and Security Laws 
  • Module 6: Information Management from a U.S. perspective 
  • Module 7: Federal versus State Authority 
  • Module 8: Healthcare 
  • Module 9: Financial Privacy 
  • Module 10: Education 
  • Module 11: Telecommunications and Marketing 
  • Module 12: Law enforcement and Privacy 
  • Module 13: National security and Privacy 
  • Module 14: Civil litigation and Privacy 
  • Module 15: Legal overview of workplace Privacy 
  • Module 16: Privacy before, during and after Employment 
  • Module 17: State data security laws 
  • Module 18: Data breach notification laws

Important Dates

 

Below are some critical dates for you to consider for the Training Program: 

  • Registration Deadline: May 3, 2024
  • Class start date: May 13, 2024
  • Class end date: June 13, 2024
  • Practice Exam: June 14 - 21, 2024
  • We recommend you take the IAPP CIPP/US exam between June 22 - 30, 2024

 

Registration Fee

 

Participants of the training program will receive the resources below at a total cost of $2,500.

 

*The certificate of completion for the Training Program is contingent on satisfying the attendance policy and earning a score of at least 85% on the chapter quizzes and practice exam

 

A hardship scholarship is available to those who qualify. Please note that there are limited scholarship funds available. To be eligible for the scholarship, the applicant must express, among other things, why their employer will not sponsor the training on the applicants behalf. If a hardship scholarship is granted, a participant may receive a full scholarship or partial scholarship based on the entirety of their application.

Confirmation & Cancellation Policy

 

Participants will receive our email confirmation along with information about the course program. The NCCU TL&PC reserves the right to change the course schedules, programs, and content without prior notice. We also reserve the right to cancel the course due to unforeseen circumstances. 

 

Withdrawal requests must be made in writing to Attorney Pickett at cpicke10@nccu.edu. Refunds arising from the Training Program will be subjected to the following terms: 

 

  • Full Refund: Requested by May 3, 2024
  • Partial Refund ($1,000): Requested between May 4, 2024 – May 12, 2024
    • Participants who receive a partial refund can keep the course participation guide, exam voucher, 1-year IAPP membership, and digital course textbook.
  • No Refund: Requested on and after May 13, 2024
    • Participants who cannot receive any refund and cannot complete the Training Program may enroll in the following training program one additional time at no cost if offered within twelve months.

Instructor Information

Instructor Profile

Cedric Pickett is an attorney, Tech Law Fellow, and Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) Trainer at the North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Technology Law and Policy Center. He holds CIPP certifications for the United States (CIPP/US) and Europe (CIPP/E) and is a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM).

 

Attorney Pickett spearheads the Data Privacy Specialization for the NCCU Technology Law and Policy Center. The Data Privacy Specialization offers students classes, resources, and networking opportunities to prepare them for the evolving legal challenges of cybersecurity and emerging technologies.

 

Attorney Pickett created and curated resources for law students and professionals to advance their careers in the data privacy industry. These resources include teaching two-credit hour courses that focus on data privacy laws and preparing students to pass the CIPP/US and CIPP/E exams, collaborating with the International Association of Privacy Professional (IAPP) Higher Education Program to offer self-study resources for data privacy students at an eighty-percent discount, identifying scholarships and conferences for students interested in data privacy, and establishing networking events.
 

Attorney Pickett is a proud 2018 graduate of NCCU Law. Before attending law school, Attorney Pickett accumulated over a decade of experience in various capacities addressing emerging technology at NC State University, Schwab Performance Technologies, and KPIT (formally known as i-Cubed). Attorney Pickett received his undergraduate degree in Technology Education from NC State University. Attorney Pickett earned his MBA and JD from North Carolina Central University.
