Law & Technology Certificate Program Information

Data Privacy & Security

The job market for data privacy professionals continues to grow.  Businesses of all sizes need and want experienced data privacy talent; however, a “talent gap” exists because the supply of data privacy professionals has not yet met the demand for such talent. Recognizing this need within the legal tech space, the TLPC has developed a Data Privacy Specialization which includes the following:

  • NCCU & IAPP Higher Education Student Discount Program - NCCU School of Law has partnered with IAPP in receiving discounts for IAPP resources in the IAPP Higher Education Student Discount Program. To help support those students studying privacy to establish themselves in the privacy space further, IAPP offers a unique opportunity to earn the CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM, or CIPT at a significant discount. Higher-ed Program students can receive online training materials, digital textbooks, sample questions, exam vouchers, and one-year student membership for $250 (nearly a 90% discount).

  • NCCU & IAPP Official Training Partnership - NCCU School of Law is an Official Training Partner for the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). The IAPP is the most significant privacy association in the world and a leader in the privacy industry. Under this partnership, the NCCU School of Law will have access to official training materials from IAPP for the CIPP/US exam. NCCU School of Law will be able to train professionals to prepare and pass the CIPP/US exam with official training materials from IAPP.

  • IAPP KnowledgeNet and Young Privacy Professionals - In 2023, NCCU School of Law students can join IAPP’s local KnowledgeNet and Young Privacy Professionals organization.  IAPP KnowledgeNet aims to allow students to meet, learn, and network with other privacy professionals in the Raleigh and Durham area. Young Privacy Professionals (YPPs) work with their local KnowledgeNet Chapter co-chairs to plan networking activities. One or two YPPs are accepted per chapter (depending on the size of the chapter) and serve a one-year term.

  • The Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) Libguide - The purpose of this libguide is to be a resource for anything related to the Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) certification.  Earning a CIPP/US credential demonstrates an understanding of a principles-based framework and knowledge base in information privacy within the U.S. context. This libguide gives students information about the context of the exam, why the certification is essential for those interested in practicing data privacy law, and how to prepare for the exam.
