Welcome to the NCCU School of Law Registrar’s Office FAQ. Below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive from students. If you don’t see your question here, feel free to contact us directly.
🎓 Academic Records & Transcripts
How do I request an official transcript?
You can request transcripts through the university’s transcript request system. Choose electronic or mailed delivery options. www.nccu.edu/registrar
Can I get an unofficial transcript?
Yes. Unofficial transcripts are available via Banner or Student Self-Service, or the Law Registrar’s Office can print an unofficial copy. Please send your request by email.
Can I pick up my transcript in person?
Yes, select “Pick Up” when submitting your request and bring a photo ID when collecting it. Transcripts are picked up in the University Registrar’s Office in the Shepard Administration Building.
How do I request a letter of good standing or enrollment verification?
Email us or submit a request form. Allow up to 3 business days for processing. Please provide the organizational name and physical address. If it needs to be mailed, please indicate this. If it needs to be emailed, please provide the email address.
📅 Registration & Course Management
When does registration open?
Dates are listed on the Registration Resources tab above. Registration typically begins in April (Fall/Summer) and October (Spring). 1L/1E/2E are registered by the Law Registrar (Fall/Spring). 1E/2E are allowed to register themselves for Summer Only.
How do I add/drop a course?
Log in to Banner Self-Service. Be mindful of the posted deadlines. The last day to add a class is always within the first 2 weeks of classes. The last day to withdraw from a class is always the last day of classes.
Can I audit a course or take it on a pass/fail basis?
Auditing requires instructor and registrar approval. Pass/fail options vary—check the academic policy or consult your advisor.
What if I need to withdraw from a course?
Submit a Course Withdrawal Form before the last day of classes. Go to www.nccu.edu/registrar to complete the form.
I need an Academic Advisor's permission—what do I do?
Contact your academic advisor to let them know you are withdrawing from the class.
🎓 Degree Progress & Graduation
How do I check my graduation progress?
Use Degree Works, Navigate, or schedule a graduation audit with the Law Registrar’s Office or Academic Advisor.
What are the requirements to graduate?
Students must complete all required credit hours, 3 credit hours of a Practice-Oriented Writing Course (POW), 6 credit hours of an Experiential Learning Course, which includes 3 credit hours for Appellate Advocacy, and maintain academic standing. Students must have completed 88 credit hours and have a minimum GPA of 2.0. All dual-degree students need 79 credit hours, and 9 (12 for Master of Public Policy) will be carried over from your dual degree program to finish your Juris Doctorate (JD).
How do I apply for graduation?
Graduation applications are submitted via Banner. Watch for email instructions each term from the University Registrar’s Office. Also, watch out for Law Registrar emails to get information on deadlines and information needed to complete the graduation process for the Law Registrar. The Graduate Certification Checklist tab contains all the Required Course Checklists that students must complete and electronically sign, both by the student and their advisor. Please submit your application through the link, not via email, during the graduating semester. (Fall/Spring/Summer)
Can I walk in the commencement ceremony with pending credits?
Students are welcome to participate in the commencement ceremony; however, they will not receive their diplomas or transcripts until all credits and grades have been accounted for. You can also join in the hooding ceremony. December graduates are eligible to participate in the May hooding ceremony, as it is not typically offered for December graduates.
⚖️ Bar Exam & Certification
How do I request Dean’s Certification for my bar application?
Submit the required form and release directly to our office. We will complete and return it to the appropriate bar authority.
Who completes the Character & Fitness portion of my application?
The Law Registrar's Office typically completes this section. Include your student ID and state bar details. Please make sure you have reported all application amendments to the Associate Dean of Admissions.
📚 Grades & GPA
When are final grades posted?
Grades are posted when the Law Registrar’s Office receives them from the professor after each assessment.
What if I believe there’s a grading error?
Contact your instructor first. Formal appeals follow the Grade Appeal Policy. Check out the Student Handbook.
What honors are awarded at graduation?
Summa Cum Laude: 3.5 GPA and higher; Magna Cum Laude: 3.3 GPA to 3.49 GPA; and Cum Laude: 3.0 GPA to 3.29 GPA
How can a student make the Dean’s List?
Dean’s List is for students who make at least a 3.0 GPA or higher for the term (Fall & Spring Semesters Only)
🕒 Class Schedules & Exams
Where can I find the academic calendar and exam schedule?
Dates are listed on the scheduling tab. Additionally, it will be emailed to each student before the semester begins, or you can view it on the wall outside the Law Registrar’s Office.
How do I request an exam reschedule or accommodation?
Contact Ms. LaToya Burt at lburt@nccu.edu in the Law Registrar’s Office or look at the accommodations tab. Do not reach out to the professor before speaking with Ms. Burt.
🧑🎓 Alumni Services
How can I request a replacement diploma?
Submit a Replacement Diploma Request Form with payment through the University Registrar’s website, www.nccu.edu/registrar.
Can I still access my student records after graduation?
Yes. Alumni may still request transcripts, enrollment verifications, and bar forms.
How do I update my name or contact info?
Email the University Registrar’s Office at registrar@nccu.edu with your request and supporting documentation (e.g., legal name change documents).
Can I request my final class rank?
Yes. Class rank is typically released after graduation. Class Ranks are only done after the Spring semester. 1Ls get a class range after the Fall semester.
