NCCU Law Library Orientation: General Library Policies

This LibGuide provides law students with basic information about the Law Library to help introduce them to the law school experience.

General Law Library Policies

In addition to research services and access to top-notch legal resources, the law library strives to provide a space for students and faculty where they can collaborate, study, and research in a safe, comfortable environment. The following policies were created to preserve the collection, equipment, and furnishings for all library users.

Cell Phones

Library users are to set mobile phones on non-audible signals and refrain from having phone conversations in the library.

Children and Minors

An emergency situation may make it necessary for parents or guardians to bring children/minors to the library. Children and minors will only be admitted to the Law Library if accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Equipment Problems

Please do not attempt to solve equipment problems. If a photocopier or microform copier has a paper jam, needs paper or ink or if any other equipment has any problem, please report it to the Circulation Desk immediately.

Group Study Rooms

Group study rooms are available for students who need to study together, conduct meetings or work on group projects. Though intended for discussions, the study rooms are not sound proof, so careful monitoring of noise levels is necessary at all times. The eight group study rooms located in the library are scheduled on a first come, first served basis via the MRM link on MyLaw. Contact Staris Best ( for more information.

Noise Level

The library encourages quiet conversation and collaborative academic work in designated areas; however, students and patrons should refrain from loud or disruptive conversations or other noisy behavior at all times.

Policy Compliance

In cases of exceptional or repeated violation of library policies, the Law Library reserves the right to revoke or refuse access to our facilities.

Reshelving Books

Allow us. Please bring items that need to be re-shelved to the Circulation Desk, or leave them on the book trucks on the library’s upper level.

Study Carrels

Unfortunately, we do not have a personal carrel for each student, so be considerate. Do not leave personal items on seating, tables, or in carrels to reserve study space.
